Tiago, Harrier, and Punch are three new car models that have been unveiled.

Tata Motors to launch Tiago electric hatchback.

Price tag close to Rs. 12 lakh mark.

Tata Motors is all set to launch its Tiago electric hatchback in the Indian market. The car is based on the Tiago compact sedan, which is currently India’s best-selling car. The Tiago EV is expected to be launched in the middle of 2023, and it will be the company’s fourth electric vehicle. The company is also working on two other electric cars – the Tata Harrier mid-size SUV and the Punch micro SUV – both of which are expected to be electrified.

Even though it hasn’t been officially announced yet, industry experts believe that the Tiago EV would be priced around Rs. 12 lakh. This would make it the most affordable electric car in India, and it could potentially trigger a wave of adoption for EVs in the country. The Tiago EV is expected to have a range of around 200 km on a single charge, and it will come with fast-charging support as well.

Tata Motors is also working on two other electric cars – the Tata Harrier mid-size SUV and the Punch micro SUV – both of which are expected to be electrified. The Harrier Electric SUV is in an advanced stage of development and is expected to be launched at the Auto Expo in early 2023. The Punch Electric could be launched sometime next year, and both the Tata Harrier and Punch EVs are expected to be priced around Rs. 20-25 lakh. Even the Punch EV, which is available as a petrol-only model, is likely to be electrified with an all-new 1.6 liter turbo petrol engine.

Harrier Electric SUV in advanced stage of development.

Launch in India in middle of 2023.

The Harrier Electric SUV is in an advanced stage of development and is expected to be launched at the Auto Expo in early 2023. The car will be based on the Tata Harrier, which is currently the best-selling SUV in India. The electric version of the car is expected to be priced around Rs. 25 lakh, which is about 30-40% more than the petrol-powered model. Even though the price tag is high, it is still lower than what other electric SUVs are available for in the market.

The launch of the Harrier Electric SUV will be a major milestone for Tata Motors as it will be the company’s first electric vehicle to be launched in India. The car is expected to have a range of 250 km on a single charge and will come with fast charging technology. With this launch, Tata Motors will become the first Indian automaker to offer an electric SUV in the country.

Punch Electric could be launched next year.

10 electric vehicles in Tata Motors' line-up by 2025.

Tata Motors is planning to launch the Punch Electric micro SUV next year. This will be one of the 10 electric vehicles in its line-up by 2025. The company is aiming to have 50% of its total car sales be electric vehicles by 2030. Currently, 8% of Tata Motors' total car sales are electric vehicles.

Electric cars typically priced 30-40% more.

What could play out with the Harrier and Punch EVs.

Electric cars are typically priced 30-40% more than their petrol or diesel counterparts. However, this premium is expected to come down as battery prices continue to fall and economies of scale are achieved. With the launch of the Tiago EV, Tata Motors is expected to price the car close to the Rs. 12 lakh mark. This would make it one of the most affordable electric cars in India. The company is also working on two other electric vehicles – the Tata Harrier mid-size SUV and the Punch micro SUV – both of which are expected to be electrified.

With these three models, Tata Motors will have a comprehensive product portfolio spanning different segments and price points. The Tiago EV will target entry-level buyers looking for an affordable electric car, while the Harrier and Punch EVs will cater to buyers looking for a mid-size SUV or a micro SUV respectively. Given that electric vehicles typically cost 30-40% more than their internal combustion engine counterparts, it remains to be seen how competitively priced these three models will be. However, with falling battery prices and increasing economies of scale, it is likely that the price premium for electric vehicles will come down in the coming years.

Shailesh Chandra expects electric vehicles to comprise 50% of Tata's total car sales by 2030.

Currently, 8% of Tata Motors' total car sales are electric vehicles.

In an interview with ET Auto, Shailesh Chandra, President of Passenger Vehicles Business Unit (PVBU) at Tata Motors, said that he expects electric vehicles (EVs) to comprise 50% of the company's total car sales by 2030. Currently, EVs make up 8% of Tata Motors' total car sales. The company is aiming to increase this to 15-20% by 2025, and 30-35% by 2030.

Chandra said that the company is working on 10 electric vehicles for the Indian market, which includes passenger cars, SUVs, and commercial vehicles. Of these 10 EVs, five will be launched in the next two years. The remaining five will be launched between 2023 and 2025.

Tata Motors is India's leading EV maker and is expected to lose market share in the coming years as more automakers enter the EV space. However, sales may increase as Tata Motors has lined up a slew of EVs for the Indian market.
